Questions
How do I apply for a mortgage?
New mortgage applications require a mortgage broker intermediary. Existing members can manage accounts online. We work with FCA-registered brokers across England and Wales to provide tailored home financing solutions.
Are savings accounts available nationwide?
Our savings accounts are available to all UK residents. Customers can operate accounts through our Earl Shilton branch, by post, or via online management tools for added convenience.
What community initiatives do you support?
We maintain a corporate partnership with Action Homeless and operate a quarterly token collection scheme. This allows members to direct community funding towards local organisations addressing homelessness and social issues.
Can I access mortgage advice directly?
We currently pause direct mortgage advice to focus on existing members. However, our partnership with Mortgage Advice Bureau in Leicestershire provides local access to FCA-authorised mortgage advisory services.
What makes you different from banks?
As a mutual building society, we operate solely for member benefit rather than shareholders. Our 160+ year history supports a personal service approach, combining traditional values with modern financial solutions tailored to individual needs.

A building society that don't take cash is laughable when every other shop does, what more of a joke is you have to pay it into another bank then transfer it!! Your opening hours at the top of face book and on Google still say the main office is open till 5pm only to find you closed with revised hours on the door and a wasted journey!! I've been a customer for many years, but now it may be time to look else where as your competitors seem to of out done you in this circumstances.

I opened my first ESBS account in February and was so pleased with them that I opened another account with them a couple of weeks ago. Great customer service, easy to manage accounts and acceptable interest rates, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend an account with them.
