About Us
Report
The distinguished and long established firm of Williamson Brothers, Funeral Directors of Birches Head, which spans five generations, prides itself on remaining one of only a few family firms of Funeral Directors in North Staffordshire. Williamson Brothers was founded in 1927 by Frederick Williamson, a local baker, who named the firm after his two sons, George and Cyril Williamson.
Our Role
Report
Arranging a funeral can be something that relatives embark upon with an amount of uncertainty and apprehension. Our role as a funeral director is to make arrangements on the family's behalf, to discuss any personal requests and to offer help and advice. This meeting can take place at Birch House but usually it will be in the familiar surroundings of your own home.
Help & Advice
Report
When someone dies at home and their death was expected you will need to contact your family doctor or the doctor who has most recently been in attendance. Once the doctor (or they may choose to send a medical practioner in their place), has attended please contact us and we will arrange to remove the deceased to our Chapel of Rest.
Registration Procedure
Report
A death needs to be registered at the Registrars of Births & Deaths within five working days of its occurrence, unless the coroner is involved or the registrar says this period may be extended. First of all the medical certificate of Cause of Death (commonly referred to as the Death Certificate) needs to be obtained from the family doctor (in the case of a home death) or from the bereavement office at the hospital.
Her Majesty’s Coroner
Report
In certain circumstances a doctor cannot issue a medical certificate of Cause of Death and the coroner has to be informed. If the death was sudden, following an accident, a fall, a recent operation or if the deceased was in receipt of an Industrial Pension, Industrial Injuries Benefit or War pension the Coroner will most probably be involoved.
