Lindsays
In 1815, cousins Frederick Fothringham and John Lindsay, two 22-year-olds from Forfarshire, set up a law firm at 80 George Street, in Edinburgh. Over two hundred years later, the firm still proudly bears the Lindsay name. Some of our earliest clients are still with us, including the Lochiel and Argyll estates.

We also work for the descendants of Frederick Fothringham. However, our 21st-century landed estate clients are more likely to seek our advice on renewable energy, commercial property or holiday lets than ask us to collect their rents in cash. Much else has altered over the past 200 years. We've grown from two partners to 41 partners and now offer a full range of legal services to businesses, families and individuals.

For You and Your Family
Report
We work with people over a lifetime. By taking the trouble to find out about your circumstances, we can help you plan for the unexpected as well as the expected. In addition to dealing with specific situations or issues, we can ensure that other problems do not arise.

Many clients have been with us for decades - not just as individuals, but also as senior-decision-makers in businesses (often their own) or in their roles in other sectors such as education or not-for-profit.Because we work for them holistically, we can support them at all stages of the journey through life - work, family, property, retirement, tax and any other problems that crop up on the way.

Court accepts informal form of notice for commercial lease in recent tacit relocation case. Commercial landlords and tenants should note from this decision that if either party wishes to end a lease it's advisable for written notice to be sen. The Court of Session's appeal decision on renegotiating telecoms leases may lead to more requests from telecoms operators for site providers to agree.
