Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Training & Courses in Birmingham
Established in 1986 by Shirley Truckle, the Birmingham Trust for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (BTPP) is a charitable organisation dedicated to advancing psychoanalytic psychotherapy training and practice. Our mission stems from the belief that all children deserve access to therapy delivered by well-trained professionals, particularly those in disadvantaged communities across the West Midlands. We offer a range of accredited courses, including the Postgraduate Diploma in Perinatal, Child, Adolescent, and Family Work (M7), clinical child psychotherapy training, and adult psychotherapy training, designed for professionals seeking to deepen their psychodynamic expertise. Our inclusive approach ensures accessibility to psychoanalytic concepts regardless of background, fostering a learning community that values diverse perspectives and contemporary thinking about difference.

Over 100 child psychotherapists and hundreds of clinicians have benefited from our training, which combines Kleinian-Bionian-Meltzerian psychoanalytic theory with practical application. We also host events, lectures, and conferences to promote psychoanalytic thinking, while our charitable initiatives focus on supporting professionals who work with vulnerable children and families. Our trustees ensure resources are directed to maximise training access, reflecting Shirley Truckles legacy of commitment to social equity and professional development in mental health.
