I am the guitar teacher and musician, Stephen Murrell. I run Guitar Lessons Camberley. Teaching is done privately from my home in Sandhurst near Camberley. I have previously taught the guitar for Wellington College, Bearwood College, Hampshire Music Services, Thames Valley University, Yamaha Music Schools and Berkshire Maestro's.

Guitar Set Up & Restringing

Guitars bought new from a factory floor are only set up to average specifications and different players require varying specifications. However, a well setup guitar is far, far more enjoyable, and usually easier to play. Getting it right is often down to the taste and style of the individual player.

When buying a guitar, if it is difficult to press the strings down due to a high action (strings high above the fret board), then ask me to do a guitar set up for you or put lighter guage strings on to make it easier to play. Another thing to remember is all guitars feel and sound differently according to the woods used in manufacture and neck widths.
