Services
Called Protreat out for a quotation. I was called in advance and then owner Dave came out on time and met me at the property. Dave was honest with me that the work wouldn't be required and advised us on what to do to solve it without a professional being required - Honesty is always appreciated as rare these days and the company were great with their punctuality and communication as mentioned.
Basement Conversions
Report
In today's world, the requirement for extra space has often become essential. Extending your home can be expensive, time-consuming, and nearly always requires planning permission, which can be difficult to obtain. Many building owners opt to boost living or working space by means of an extension, but whilst this gives you more space internally, valuable external space is lost.
Rising & Penetrating Dampness
Report
The morjority of building materials which are used for walls are porus which will absorb water if in contact. Even against gravity water can rise up the small holes called pores or capilaries within the wall structure from the wet ground below, creating rising damp, this process will carry soluable ground salts (chlorides & nitrates) from the ground up into the wall and contaminating the wall plaster, if present.
Condensation
Report
This problem is being found to trouble more and more occupants as a result of the modernization of properties that originally had adequate natural ventilation i.e. Condensation does not in itself cause damage to the structure of the building. It can, however, be aggravated by water ingress from other building defects.
Cavity Wall Ties
Report
Cavity wall ties were first introduced in the early 20th century to provide insulation and protection from dampness due to water ingress. These ties fixed the inner and outer skins of wall together, however due to the ties being made from iron they would corrode and expand, causing horizontal and stepped cracking within the masonry.
