Orkney Holiday Cottages with Artisan Bakery
Eviedale Cottages is a family-run business established in 2017 by Ian and Philippa Porritt, offering traditional Orcadian holiday cottages and artisan bakery experiences in Evie Village, Orkney. Our two self-catering properties, The Lodge and The Cottage, combine historical charm with modern comforts, including multi-fuel stoves and contemporary amenities. The Bakehouse produces handcrafted sourdough breads, pastries, and wood-fired pizzas using locally sourced ingredients and a 36-hour fermentation process.

Located just 2 miles from the Broch of Gurness and 20 minutes from Kirkwall, our properties provide ideal bases for exploring Orkney's Neolithic heritage. We maintain strong community ties, operate a seasonal garden project, and offer allergy-friendly options while welcoming well-behaved pets in designated accommodations. Our business reflects decades of combined hospitality experience through personalized service and commitment to quality.

Services
Holiday Cottages
Our two traditional Orcadian cottages offer comfortable holiday stays with modern amenities. Converted from historic croft and mill buildings, they feature double glazing, multi-fuel stoves, and proximity to Neolithic sites. The Lodge accommodates 4-6 guests with pet-friendly options, while The Cottage suits smaller parties seeking allergy-friendly accommodation.
Sourdough Bakery
Orkney's first dedicated sourdough bakery produces handcrafted breads and pastries using 24-36 hour fermentation. We use organic flour and local ingredients to create rustic white, sandwich white, and Beremeal granary loaves alongside croissants, cruffins, and cinnamon swirls. Thursday is main bakery day with pre-orders available.
Wood-Fired Pizzas
Our wood-fired pizzas use hand-stretched sourdough bases with 36-hour proved dough. Toppings feature Italian 00 flour, San Marzano tomatoes, and locally sourced produce. Available as cook-at-home frozen pizzas with delivery options, these artisan products showcase traditional baking methods adapted for modern convenience.
Local Attractions
Eviedale Cottages provides strategic access to Orkney's Neolithic heritage. Guests can visit Broch of Gurness (2 miles away), Skara Brae (11 miles), and Ring of Brodgar (9 miles) with ease. We offer visitor guidance for sites including Brough of Birsay and Maeshowe Chambered Cairn, all within 20-minute drives from our properties.
Alcohol Sales
Our licensed off-sales service offers curated selections of organic wines, local craft beers, and Scottish ciders. Products include independent producers from France, Italy, and Spain alongside regional specialties. This service continues despite temporary restaurant closure, maintaining our commitment to quality beverage provision.

Yes, our sourdough breads, pastries, and frozen pizzas are available through our honesty shop and pre-orders. We operate Thursday as main bakery day but can accommodate special requests with advance notice.
What nearby attractions are accessible from Eviedale?

Great campsite, lovely people who run it and seemed to have lovely facilities including showers. Great if you have a tent unfortunately we have a camper van. If you do have a campervan you just have to park it by the side of a road as their is no where on grass to park it on grass.
