What is Podiatry
Report
In the UK podiatry is simply the new name for chiropody. The name was changed to podiatry in 1993 as it's the international recognised name for a foot specialist. There is no difference they are essentially the same word. If you look at the word itself, pod means foot and chiro means "to use hands to heal" hence the terms chiropractor and chiropodist.
Podiatry Treatments
Report
Our Feet help us balance, walk, run, and propel us the equivalent of 5 times around the earth's surface in an average life time. Our routine podiatry (formerly chiropody) treatments are suitable for all; young and old, in fact you may be surprised to find out that 9 out of 10 people will have experienced problems with their feet before the age of 30, so podiatry is not just a service for older individuals.
Removal of Hard Skin
Report
Calluses are an accumulation of dead skin cells that harden and thicken over time in an area of the foot. It is formed as part of the body's defense mechanism to protect the foot against excessive pressure and friction that if too thick can become problematic. Calluses are normally found on the ball-of-the-foot, and/or the side of the big toe and can also be found in conjunction with corns.
Verrucae Treatment
Report
A verruca is simply a wart that is usually found on the soles of your feet, though they can also appear around the toes. In the early stages, a verruca looks like a small, dark, puncture mark but later turns grey or brown. It may become rough and bumpy with a cauliflower-like appearance and may develop a black spot in the middle, which is caused by bleeding.
