The Osteopathic Clinic in Barnet
The Osteopathic Clinic is a multi-disciplinary healthcare provider founded over four decades ago by Professor Laurie Hartman. Our practice combines osteopathy, physiotherapy, chiropody, acupuncture, and other therapies to address musculoskeletal and holistic health needs. With decades of collective experience, our team prioritises patient-centred care, focusing on identifying root causes of conditions rather than merely treating symptoms. We employ evidence-based techniques, including joint mobilisation, soft tissue therapy, and biomechanical analysis, tailored to individual requirements.

Our practitioners maintain affiliations with professional bodies such as the General Osteopathic Council and Complementary National Health Care Council. We serve Barnet and surrounding areas, offering extended weekday hours and emergency appointments. Services
Osteopathy
Osteopathy at our clinic involves comprehensive assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. Our practitioners use hands-on techniques to address joint pain, back problems, and sports injuries. Treatment plans combine spinal manipulation, soft tissue work, and rehabilitative exercises to restore mobility and reduce discomfort. Patients receive detailed explanations of their conditions and preventive advice tailored to their lifestyle and occupation.
Physiotherapy
Our physiotherapy services address acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions through evidence-based interventions. Helen Rayner, our chartered physiotherapist, employs joint mobilisations, myofascial release, and therapeutic exercise programmes. Treatment focuses on restoring function after injury or surgery while addressing underlying postural and movement patterns that contribute to pain and dysfunction.
Chiropody
Chiropody services include assessment and treatment of foot-related conditions such as corns, calluses, and plantar fasciitis. Mr Nur Farah provides biomechanical analysis and orthotic prescription alongside routine nail care and skin treatments. The service addresses both symptomatic relief and long-term foot health maintenance through gait analysis and footwear advice.
Acupuncture
Adam Leighton's acupuncture practice integrates traditional Chinese medicine with modern techniques. Treatments address pain management, stress reduction, and various systemic conditions using needle insertion, cupping, and electro-acupuncture. Each session includes lifestyle and dietary advice, with treatment plans tailored to individual presentations ranging from sports injuries to chronic pain conditions.
Sports Injuries
Specialised sports injury management combines osteopathic treatment with rehabilitation strategies. The clinic addresses common sporting ailments like tennis elbow, ligament sprains, and muscle strains. Treatment incorporates soft tissue techniques, joint mobilisation, and sport-specific exercise programmes to facilitate safe return to activity while preventing recurrence through biomechanical assessment.

Questions
What conditions do you treat?
We treat musculoskeletal issues including back pain, joint problems, sports injuries, and chronic pain conditions using osteopathy, physiotherapy, and complementary therapies.
How does osteopathy work?
Osteopathy identifies root causes of pain through comprehensive assessment, then uses manual techniques to improve mobility, reduce inflammation, and restore normal function across musculoskeletal systems.
Are emergency appointments available?
Yes, we offer emergency consultations for urgent musculoskeletal issues with our on-call practitioners available via our dedicated emergency number.
Do you accept private medical insurance?
We recommend checking with your insurance provider regarding alternative therapy coverage. Many major insurers do cover our treatments when provided by registered practitioners.
Can I self-refer for treatment?
Yes, self-referrals are welcome for all our services. Our osteopaths and physiotherapists can assess and treat without prior medical referral, though complex cases may involve GP liaison.
What should I wear to appointments?
Wear comfortable clothing allowing movement assessment. For certain treatments, you may be asked to remove outer garments while maintaining appropriate modesty coverings.

I came along after being recommended by 2 friends. I had a lower back and hip pain
Fiona really put me at ease , took time to find out my history and problem. She worked on me with stretches and manipulation and I walked out feeling straighter and in less pain.
2 days later I am feeling so much better and I am continuing stretches at home. I wish I had gone years ago !
Thankyou
