Alderholt Mill

Alderholt Mill is a fully restored 14th-century working water mill offering unique self-catering holiday accommodation in the heart of the Dorset countryside. Nestled on the edge of the New Forest National Park, our property combines centuries-old heritage with modern comforts, providing guests with a tranquil retreat surrounded by natural beauty. The mill's historic machinery remains operational, producing wholemeal flour from locally grown wheat, which visitors can purchase via our honesty box system. Our sympathetically converted Millers End cottage sleeps two guests in a charming setting featuring original oak beams, a fully equipped kitchen, and a spacious garden with barbecue facilities. We prioritise sustainability through local sourcing and preservation of traditional milling methods, earning recognition via the New Forest Marque.

The property's riverside location offers opportunities for coarse fishing (June-March) with secure tackle storage available. While we welcome well-behaved dogs at a small additional charge, we regret we cannot accommodate children under eight years old due to proximity to the river. Our guests benefit from complimentary high-speed internet, parking, and all utilities included in rental rates. The mill itself opens Sundays 2pm-6pm (Easter-September) for cream teas featuring our freshly milled flour scones. With over three decades of operation since our 1987 restoration, we continue to provide authentic rural escapes that blend historical significance with contemporary convenience.
