Originally called The Summerhill Hotel, the inn now occupies two old dwellings. In the old days on one side was the hotel and on the other, now the lounge, was a bakery. The hotel changed its name in the 1980s to celebrate the famed Jacobs Ladder steps which were built by the local businessman Jacob Hamblen.
