John Fordham started James Harper Independent Funeral Directors in 2002 because he was worried about what he saw as a rising trend in the funeral industry - large multinational companies buying up many smaller independents, changing the landscape of the funeral industry forever, from a system that had survived for generations.

Arranging a funeral can seem to be a complex business. At James Harper clarity and transparency of all of our funeral arrangements is a priority - we want you to be a clear what you can expect from us, and exactly what you are paying for. This includes where we make any payments to a third party on your behalf, for example a minister or a crematorium.

James Harper are proudly able to offer our families the very best in traditional funeral vehicles.
Each life is totally unique and on the day of the funeral it is possible to incorporate that uniqueness in the vehicles used, whether it be providing a motorcycle hearse, beautiful horse drawn carriage or a vintage double decker bus the choices are endless and our funeral arrangers can offer advice and help in picking the perfect vehicle for that final journey.

Disbursement Fees

Disbursements are payments that we make to third parties on your behalf to make your funeral arrangement, because of this these costs can vary. The largest third party cost is usually the crematorium which varies considerably between locations. These third party costs will make up part of the final cost of your funeral arrangement; we do not make any addition to the original third party fee charged.
