Lakeside Engineering was started in 1996 by Tim Baker, The idea was to offer a more affordable alternative to the official lotus dealer network, which over the last ten years has proved very popular. We have a vast experience of Lotus Cars but also with SAAB, Honda, Ford, Alfa Romeo, Maserati and more recently Porsche.

These cars have a service every 9,000 miles or annually with additional service items being replaced at set times or mileages, for example the air filter is changed every four years or 36,000 miles, Also with the Toyota engine you do not have the expense or worry of a cam-belt change as the cam-shafts are driven by a chain which are a lot more durable than a rubber belt.
Elise Chassis Corrosion

We look after many hundreds of Elise's and their derivatives, over the past few years we have noticed a powdery deposit associated with aluminium oxide corrosion around the front upper wishbone mounting point which understandably has given us some cause for concern. Recently we have had an Elise in for some suspension work which has given us the opportunity to remove the front upper wishbone.
Porsche IMS Failure

The IMS bearing on Porsche M96 engines fitted to the 996 & Boxster have gained a reputation for failure, although in reality it does not happen to all of them. The problem is made worse by the fact you get little or no warning that a failure is imminent and due to the affect a failure has on the valve timing the end result is usually catastrophic, in some cases the damage is so server that it is uneconomical to repair.

As the Lotus's are getting older we are increasingly finding the cooling system hoses perishing, some of the hoses particularly for the Elan are becoming difficult to obtain. We can now offer silicone hose kits offering much better quality hose at competitive prices. Which also have the added advantage of improving the look of your engine bay.
