Our heritage takes us back to 1916 when the first Murdoch Brothers, and their farming family, established a Butchers Shop and Fishmongers in Forres, Moray. Four generations later Master Butchers, brothers Graham and Ronnie Murdoch, are specialists in manufacturing award-winning meat products and meat pies in their SALSA accredited premises.

The Murdoch Butchers story begins in1916 when the farming family established a Butchers Shop on the High Street in the Royal Burgh of Forres. In those days Forres was a busy market town located only three miles from the Moray Firth coast. The family used traditional farming methods and were also well known locally for breeding high quality working horses.

Our father, Danny Murdoch, started making pies and selling them to the local people of Forres in the 1960s, but it was our mother, Margaret Murdoch, who made the first ever Murdoch's steak pie! A forgotten order for a steak pie from the local baker (who we supplied with steak), for one of our local customers led to the first Murdoch's pie being made in our kitchen when we were boys.
