The Process

The gov.uk website currently states that buying or selling a home normally takes 2 to 3 months. The process can take longer if you're part of a chain of buyers and sellers. Buyers who are purchasing their first property or replacing their main residence will not have to pay Stamp Duty on the first 300,000 of the purchase price, but will pay 5% on the portion from 300,001 to 500,000.
