Our story
Report
The story of Anstruther Fish Bar and Restaurant has its roots firmly in the fishing tradition of the East Neuk. Fishing has been the lifeblood of owners Robert and Alison Smith's families for generations, and both are proud to continue these centuries of service - now preparing and serving the finest Scottish seafood, rather than taking to sea in pursuit of it.
Our family
Report
Robert Smith - co-owner of the award-winning Anstruther Fish Bar and Restaurant - comes from a long line of East Neuk fishermen, tracing his fishing ancestry back to the 1700s. His grandfather Robert Smith OBE served on steam drifters from the East Neuk before becoming a prominent skipper at the port of Granton, Edinburgh.

Fish processing
Report
With East Neuk fishing ancestors dating back centuries, Robert Smith expected to follow his forefathers to sea. Colourblindness meant he couldn't skipper a trawler, however, so Robert launched his own East Neuk fish processing business, Argofish, in 1980.
Now, as well as selling to local fish merchants, Argofish supplies the freshest Scottish fish to the famous Anstruther Fish Bar and Restaurant - co-owned by Robert and his wife Alison since 2003.With such a strong heritage in the fishing tradition, Robert knows that freshness, quality and consistency are the keys to keeping his discerning local customers satisfied.
