Your Home from Home in the Heart of Cumbrian Countryside
Long Byres, established in 1979, are nestled on a working hill farm in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Converted from traditional farm buildings by the Dean family, our six specially designed cottages offer a unique blend of rural charm and modern comfort. As a family-run business now entering its third generation under Sam and Helena, we continue to prioritise thoughtful refurbishments while maintaining our commitment to providing tranquil escapes. Our properties cater to families, couples, and solo travellers seeking immersive countryside experiences with easy access to the Lake District, Hadrian's Wall, and Kielder Forest.

The farm setting introduces guests to native sheep and endangered Exmoor ponies, complemented by guided tours showcasing our agricultural heritage. With over four decades of hospitality experience, we combine local knowledge with practical amenities to create memorable stays in one of England's most scenic regions.

The hosts were brilliant, as was the accommodation and the location was perfect. We had a great holiday with friends. Twenty of us booked all six cottages and we couldn't have asked for more from our week in Talkin Head.
Thanks

We (14ppl, adults and children) had a great weekend away at this property. The owners were very accomodating and the setting just spoke for itself, beautiful views. It's location is ideal for a quiet weekend away. So many scenic walks available locally. The cottages themselves were very homely and spacious.

This place has a lovely location, very scenic, alluring views and very quiet but I feel the bad point need to be addressed to the property. This property needs to compromise on a middle ground with the bedroom quilts too thick advised to bring your own if you don't like big fluffy quilts, way to much for the summer as the beds are raised off the floor
This property is a fly magnet, I wasn't made aware untill I was on site, there is only one fly catcher device, these flies bite big time, kept me up the first two nights
I believe all windows should have blinds and nets to stop the flies invading

Loved it! We booked the 2 largest houses which slept 14 of us for a 30th. Amazing location, stunning views and friendly hosts. Can't wait to return. Local pub 15 min walk away served lovely food and drink too. Highly recommended a visit especially if you get the lovely summer weather we did! Views are just perfect.

Great location, surrounded by good walks and country pubs. Dog friendly, unique, characterful cottages and very comfy beds. The one we stayed in had been recently refurbished and was looking smart. Would recommend for a peaceful getaway and/or to enjoy some nature
