The Summerhill Group of veterinary practices began life in the basement of the family home - adjacent to the current surgery in Summerhill Avenue - back in the 1960's, by Jean Morris. It was a family-run, family-orientated practice that fulfilled the need for an affordable veterinary service to the local community.
From the single consultancy room way-back then, the group now operates from ten practices and provides dedicated pet care across the entire South Wales region. The Summerhill Avenue surgery has been extended three times, and in 2005, a derelict site adjacent to the surgery was acquired and turned into their very own car park.

Services
Services
Report
As you might imagine, it is probably (and practically!) impossible to list every single care and service, every single pet, might require throughout its lifetime. However, below is a non-definitive list of the major services we provide - but please remember, if you don't see what you're looking for at first glance, just pick up the phone and contact us!
Out of Hours
Report
If your pet has an emergency during our normal opening hours, please call the practice and we will advise you what to do next. Vets Now is the pet equivalent of an accident and emergency service, dedicated to providing pets with access to a vet out of hours. It's all they do. Based at Vets Now, Newport, their vets and vet nurses are specially trained to deal with pet emergencies.
Careers
Report
At Summerhill Veterinary Centre we are delighted to give local pupils with an interest in a career in the veterinary field experience working in our surgery. If you would like a placement then you need to be aware that there are only a limited amount of placements available each year - we are not always able to comply with every request.
Lost and Found
Report
Please remember, somebody somewhere will be heartbroken that they have lost their pet - so you cannot keep a stray pet no matter how much you may want to. It must be returned to its rightful owner if that owner can be traced.
If you have lost your pet - or, found a stray - and would like to let, potentially, thousands of people know, visit Summerhill Vets Lost and Found Pets Newport Gwent Facebook page, to upload your request for help, or provide information.Remember to keep safe on the internet: Upload a photo of the animal and/or information regarding its description, remembering to include where and when last seen, or found.

Pet Nutrition
Report
We believe that nutrition is an important part of keeping pets healthy and can also play a vital part in the treatment of some illnesses. This is why we stock a select range of cat and dog pet food in practice, helping to take the faff out of pet food for our clients by recommending diets that have been scientifically created to provide optimal nutrition, which tastes great!
