Explore East Asian Art & Culture in Bath
Founded in 1993, the Museum of East Asian Art is an independent charity dedicated to connecting cultures through art. Our mission focuses on exploring and celebrating the rich artistic heritage of East and Southeast Asia, offering visitors a unique opportunity to engage with over 2,000 objects spanning from 5,000 BC to the present. Our collection, originally established by founder Brian McElney, includes ceramics, metalware, bamboo, lacquerware, and jade, with ongoing efforts to expand accessibility through digital platforms. We curate engaging temporary exhibitions alongside our permanent displays, providing context and symbolism through interactive experiences like our Discovery Room.

As a registered charity (328725), we prioritise educational outreach, community engagement, and cultural preservation. Our team works closely with the Art Fund and other partners to acquire new pieces while maintaining rigorous conservation standards. The museum serves as both a cultural hub and educational resource, offering programmes for schools, families, and scholars. Through our shop and events, we support sustainable practices by collaborating with independent makers and local artisans. Our vision remains rooted in fostering cross-cultural understanding through the lens of East Asian art and heritage.

Excellent museum dedicated to East Asia. It spans on 4 floors. Additionally there was an English Judo dedicated room. No need for pre-booking. Was excellent choice when you turn up in Bath witout any other museum bookings. Friendly people.

A very nice exhibition! The museum is small but beautiful! My favourite part about the place is the friendly volunteers and staff, it is a great pleasure to talk to them. I will definitely go back to this museum before I leave the UK, really well worth a visit (if you are interested in Asian culture)

Absolutely gorgeous, the history and art is unlike anything I've ever seen before in person. Also has an elevator, and onsite toilets. Their gift shop is amazing! Photography allowed, just not flash. Spy my favourites.

It is such a shame that they had to close the first floor due to major damage done by intruders. The collection feels definitely smaller because of it but it is not the museums fault at all. It is probably the cheapest museum in Bath so I would say definitely go take a look and help them get back on their feet!

This is a real gem in Bath. Excellent displays of beautiful ceramics. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I was shocked and horrified to hear they'd suffered a break-in and a number of irreplaceable pieces were stolen. More people need to visit to help raise funds.
