The Royal Green Jackets
The centrepiece of the exhibition is a huge 25 square metre diorama of the battle of Waterloo with over 30,000 model soldiers and horses. In total there are over 40,000 objects of considerable historical interest in the Museum, including uniforms, medals, weapons, silver and paintings. The Museum regularly organises special events, such as exhibitions, lectures and 'Fun for All' days during school holidays.

Wheelchairs The museum displays are situated on two floors. A wheelchair and stair lift is available for visitors use. Wheelchair-accessible toilet and baby changing facilities are located on the ground floor. There is limited free car parking on site for visitors to Winchester's Military Museums only.

Situated adjacent to Winchester's Great Hall and within easy walking distance of the City centre, The Royal Green Jackets (Rifles) Museum, opened in 1989, is one of the best regimental museums in the Country. It is also one of Winchester's five military museums.

Visited by thousands every year, the Museum records, visually, graphically and entertainingly, the history of The Royal Green Jackets and their predecessors who were three of the finest and most famous regiments in the British Army.In the same building, but separate to the Museum, is The Rifles Collection allowing visitors to follow the story of Rifle Regiment into the present day.

This artwork on display on the first floor of the Museum is by James De Vine Aylward and was painted in 1917. The painting re-creates a well-known incident in the history of the 95th Rifles. The cottage is Maison Valette on the Charleroi-Brussels road, about 100 metres behind Wellington's front line.

This photograph of Riflemen relaxing was taken in 1944 near Hill 112 East of Villers Bocage in Northern France. The image shows men serving with 8RB (8th Battalion Rifle Brigade) receiving post and catching up on the news from home. To the rear of the picture is a half track. 8RB was one of two. The units in the town included the 2nd Bn King's Royal Rifle Corps and the 1st Bn The Rifle Brigade were part of the relieving force.
