Born in 1910, Sir Max Aitken was a decorated WWII pilot, newspaper executive, and passionate yachtsman. He established the museum in 1947, preserving his extensive maritime collection. A key figure in Cowes' yachting community, he founded the London International Boat Show and Cowes-Torquay Powerboat Race, leaving a lasting legacy in maritime sports and heritage preservation.

We're open Tuesday-Saturday, 10:00-16:00 from May-September. Private visits can be arranged outside these times.
