The Rifleman's Museum: Exploring Military History in Winchester
The Rifleman's Museum chronicles the rich history of the British Army's Rifle Regiments, tracing their origins from the 18th century to the present-day regiment, The Rifles. Our mission focuses on preservation, education, commemoration, research, and community engagement. Through carefully curated exhibits, we illustrate the evolution of the Rifle Regiments and their lasting influence on modern military tactics. We preserve over 7,000 medals, including 30 Victoria Crosses, and maintain a research library for historical inquiries. Our educational programs cater to school groups, serving riflemen, and history enthusiasts.

Evening talks explore epic battles and untold stories, while interactive displays like the Waterloo Diorama bring history to life. We celebrate the defining qualities of riflemen: adaptability, innovation, and enduring spirit. Located in Winchester's historic Peninsula Barracks, we serve as a hub for veterans, serving personnel, and local communities. Our collection includes the Waterloo Diorama with 30,000 models and original artifacts like the Baker Rifle. We uphold traditions while connecting past experiences to contemporary military operations.

Very good museum, it’s a pity the museum does not promote the Cap Badges worn by the men as MEMORIAL AT PENINSULA LTD do, the Tribute and Memorial Chairs / Benches outside the museum are a credit to the… Regiment. The Royal Green Jackets Museum and The Regiment including the RGJA do NOT OWN the graphic design to the GJB and the RGJ Cap Badges worn, these are legally owned by MEMORIAL AT PENINSULA LTD

Fantastic place, an amazing collection of information and artifacts. Whatever your opinion of British military history, the scale of sacrifice and bravery represented in the medal room is humbling.

Really well laid out, well present museum - highly recommend if in Winchester and their Waterloo exhibit is worth the entrance fee on its own.
