Discovery Flights

It may be the first step you take on the way to attaining your 'Wings' and your Private Pilots Licence. Telephone our Operation Desk (+44 (0)1789 840094) and we shall be pleased to schedule you in for a half hour 'Discovery Flight' which will cost you just J83.50p.

A handy accompaniment to the flight would be to include the purchase of a small 64 page colour illustrated booklet labeled The Introductory Flying Lesson which guides you through all you need to know about the first flight, including important information on continuing on to train for your licence and a logbook entry sheet to log your first lessons.The booklet costs J5.

Whether you use an aeroplane to expand the amount of territory you can cover in your business, or take your family on a vacation that otherwise would be impossible, flying is certainly practical. Add to this the fact that learning to fly and using the skill are both interesting and enjoyable, and you will begin to understand why becoming a pilot makes such good sense.

A course of a minimum of five (5) hours flight time in aeroplanes shall be completed at night comprising of three (3) hours of dual instruction including at least one (1) hour of cross-country navigation and five (5) solo take-offs and five (5) solo full-stop landings. Appropriate ground school audio-visual lectures to accompany the flying training is provided.
IMC Rating

An Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC) Rating extends the privileges of a PPL(A) holder to allow flight as Pilot-in-Command when out of sight of the surface, when in IMC conditions, and, in class D or E airspace in circumstances which require compliance with Instrument Flight Rules (IFR).

However, the holder shall NOT fly an aeroplane on a special VFR flight in a control zone in a flight visibility of less than 3 km (1.9 miles) and can not take-off or land an aeroplane at any place if the flight visibility below cloud is less than 1,800 metres (5,900 feet).The minimum course requirements includes fifteen (15) hours training in instrument flying, two (2) of these hours may be in our Frasca flight simulator.

For many years the RAF Association has awarded Flying Scholarships to members of the Combined Cadet Force, The Air Cadet Organisation and the Girls Venture Corps Air Cadets as a way of saying a huge thank you for all the support that both organisations grant them throughout the year with their fund raising functions and events.
