The modern way to tan should leave nothing to chance. The emphasis is on pleasurable enjoyment of tanning, but taking into account the differences of skin type. The positive effects of UV light on our bodies are well documented, but many of us are unaware of the important part that UV light rays play in our lives.

It is a widely held belief that the use of sunbeds increases the risk of developing skin cancer. But now a large-scale study carried out by the University of Leeds in the UK is showing how the opposite is in fact true. However, we often forget that UV exposure is crucial if the body is to maintain an adequate level of vitamin D, which in turn has a positive effect on the entire immune system.

A persons ability to tan is affected by the melanin level in their skin so start with short sessions. Do not be tempted to exceed your recommended time in the mistaken belief it will lead to a darker tan. Not for novice tanners! These products redden the skin and bring the blood to the surface. Your skin may initially appear more tanned but the reddening of the skin can make it feel quite sore.
