Bow Street Runner
We look forward to seeing you soon! A small traditional pub in the heart of Hove just 100 metres from the sea front and its famous 19th century promenade. Sue took the pub over in 2010 and is helped by a great team, her manager Warren, Tony and Paulina behind the bar and Paulina also helps with the rooms.

They all make our guests very welcome as do our pub customers and Beau (our dog). The whole team aims to ensure our guests enjoy their experience when they stay at the Bow Street Runner Bed & Breakfast. That's why we are delighted with the reviews we consistently receive. On the second floor above the pub, with a separate private entrance for our guests to use.

The Pub
Report
Rumoured to originally have been known as the Station Inn, the pub was first mentioned in street directories in 1867. Previously the building was the old Brunswick Police and Fire Station, so it has a very interesting past which the staff will happily tell you about over a pint or two!

According to legend the pub was renamed the Bow Street Runner in the 1960s, after the landlord decided he'd had enough of the customers asking the time of the next train! The Bow Street Runners were of course the the first recognised police force in London and were organised by the chief magistrate at Bow Street, near Covent Garden - hence the name was given.
