We are a vibrant bar located in the heart of Hay-on-Wye, a picturesque town renowned for its literary heritage and scenic Welsh borders. Since our establishment, we have been dedicated to providing a welcoming space for locals and visitors alike, offering an extensive selection of Spanish-inspired wines, charcuterie, and bar snacks. Our commitment to quality and hospitality has been evident through our 13-and-a-half-year tenure, during which we have hosted numerous pop-up events and curated memorable experiences.

While our kitchen remains temporarily closed due to staffing challenges, we continue to operate as a bar, ensuring guests enjoy our carefully selected offerings. We are excited to transition our business to Epicure Events, the team behind Hay Castle Cafe and Hay Distillery, who will bring fresh energy to our beloved establishment while maintaining its unique charm.

Bar Service

Our bar offers an extensive selection of Spanish wines, sangria, and craft beverages. Guests can enjoy our curated wine list featuring Navarran whites and Ribera del Duero reds. The bar remains open Tuesday-Sunday from 4pm, serving drinks alongside our charcuterie and snack options while our kitchen undergoes transition.

Accommodation

Three en-suite rooms available above the bar: superking, double, and twin configurations. All rooms feature premium bedding, modern amenities, and convenient access to the bar below. Rates include complimentary WiFi and tea/coffee facilities, with check-in from 4pm and checkout by noon.

Wine List

Extensive wine offerings from Spain and Italy, including white, ros, and red varieties. Wines available by the glass (125ml-250ml) or bottle, with prices ranging from 4.50 to 29.50. Featured labels include Pleno Tempranillo, Rioja Vega Viura, and Acon Roble, showcasing traditional Spanish viticulture.

Pop-up Events

Regularly scheduled pop-up dining experiences featuring guest chefs and culinary concepts. Current programme includes Keralan Karavan's Indian fusion cuisine and other rotating speciality menus. Events operate on an ad-hoc basis with advance notice provided through our website and social media channels.

Cheese Plates

Curated cheese boards featuring local and Spanish varieties including Ragstone goat cheese, Manchego sheep cheese, and Shipston Blue buffalo cheese. Served with freshly baked bread, our cheese plates provide a perfect accompaniment to Spanish wines while our kitchen remains temporarily closed.

Questions

What are Tomatitos' current opening hours?

We're open Tuesday-Sunday from 4pm. The bar closes at midnight, with last orders taken 30 minutes before closing.

Is the kitchen currently operational?

Our own kitchen remains temporarily closed due to staffing shortages. We operate as a bar with charcuterie plates and snacks, while hosting occasional pop-up dining events.

What accommodation options are available?

Excellent little pub which serves very tasty and filling Tapas (not small portions, so do beware)

Great range of veggie options, could eat on consecutive nights and almost not repeat the same choices. Friendly efficient staff . Oh and splendid cacti.

We visited Hay for the weekend and we were recommended to visit Tomatitos by our B&B host. We are so glad we did! Great atmosphere from the minute we walked through the door. Fantastic service, and delicious food and drink. Add it to your list if visiting Hay!

I am not going to exaggerate. This is honestly and probably the best place to eat for 50 miles around! The food is excellent and the atmosphere is lovely I would give six stars if I could!
