Phil Taylor Towbars Ltd is an independent family based company started in 1967 by Phil fitting towbars to the few models of tow-car available in the UK. It has now grown to be one of the leading towbar fitting companies in the south. The video above shows our unique team-working method in action fitting a towbar to a 2019 VW Transporter.
On the majority of installations we have three or four technicians which enables us to deal with modern vehicles (which are becoming increasingly complex) more efficiently than a roadside installation. We have a dedicated fitting bay where all work is carried out. This ensures your towbar is fitted to the highest standard.

Types of Towbar
Report
A 50mm towball is bolted to a two or four hole plate that also allows the fitting of accessories such as a towbar mounted cycle carrier. Similar in appearance to the swan neck design with the added advantage of being removable when not in use. This version offers all the versatility of a fixed flange bar whilst leaving very little of the towbar visible when detached.
Towbar Electrics
Report
This socket is a standard 'single electric' point which is required for most trailers and cycle carriers. These sockets, known as 'twin electrics' are usually fitted if you are towing an older caravan. The 12N (black) provides the road light functions and the 12S (grey) provides a reverse light feed, runs the fridge in the caravan and charges the battery whilst you are travelling.
Skoda Yeti Feature
Report
We have chosen the Yeti as a popular tow car to illustrate what is involved in fitting a towbar to a modern vehicle. This video is a time lapse of an installation of a Tow Trust fixed towbar and vehicle specific wiring on a Yeti.
Vehicle specific wiring on the Yeti enables features such as trailer indicator monitoring, reversing sensor cut-off and Trailer Stability Program, most of which are activated by reprogramming with our Westfalia Autocode Diagnostic Tool. These photos show an installation of a Westfalia detachable towbar with bumper cover panel.

Report
The price of a towbar depends on a number of factors; whether you want a fixed or detachable towbar, whether you require single or twin electrics, or a 13 pin socket arrangement, whether your vehicle requires a vehicle specific wiring kit and if the caravan you are towing has an AL-KO stabiliser which requires a compatible towball to be fitted.
Reversing Sensors
Report
Vodafone Automotive offer a reversing sensor kit that installs flush with the surface of the bumper to give that "factory fitted" look. The sensors measure the distance between the obstacle and your vehicle and alerts you through an audible signal, enabling you to avoid collisions and take the stress out of reversing.
