Services
Podiatry
Report
Podiatry is the term now being used when talking about foot care in the UK and is replacing the term chiropody. The change was made due to a variation in qualifications for a chiropodist. A podiatrist studies for a minimum of 3 years before qualifying with a BSc in Podiatric studies. From then onward they agree to a minimum of 35 hours of continual professional development every year.
Athletes Foot
Report
Athlete's Foot is a fungal infection that affects the upper layer of the skin of the foot, especially when it is warm, moist, and irritated. The easiest way to think of an Athlete's Foot infection is to liken it to a gardener who is trying to germinate seeds. The fungus produces millions of spores, which will sit on the skin, in socks and stockings as well as your shoes.
Children’s Foot Problems
Report
Children develop a whole range of foot problems in the same way as adults can. For example, they can range from Athlete's Foot to Verrucae as well as structural conditions such as flat feet and Sever's Disease. From birth to walking, children's feet have to adapt from non-weightbearing to carrying their body weight and propelling them forwards at around 14 months of age.
Corns, Callous & Cracked Heels
Report
Corns and Callouses are thick, hardened layers of hard skin on specific areas of the foot. Contrary to popular belief, corns do not have a root. Cracked Heels are the result of dry and thickened skin, sometimes with callouses around the edge of the heel. Sometimes cracked heels can be painful but nor always.
Diabetic Foot Care
Report
Diabetes can lead to a restricted blood supply to the feet resulting in cold, painful feet. It is the restricted supply of blood which can result in feet being slow to heal and can quickly become infected. Diabetes can lead to nerve damage in the feet and legs resulting in a loss of sensation. Any trauma or injury to the foot, for example a tight shoe causing a blister, may not be felt and could lead to more serious problems such as an ulcer.
