Rob Howley founded English Language Training in 1987. It became both a successful British Council accredited language school - providing courses for students from all over the world - and a provider of executive language training to a vast range of international businesses and organisations. The school closed in 2016, but Rob continued - introducing a new format in the shape of the highly-successful 'Quartet' courses.
At the same time he carried on his work as a trainer and language consultant for companies in London and organisations such as the United Nations. Now, in the era of the virus, he is offering online courses. He is enjoying the challenge of teaching in this new way, developing new teaching and learning strategies and maintaining the reputation for excellence he has with his students.

Most of my online lessons are 1 to 1, and this is obviously the best format for maximum individual attention. But a great favourite of mine is 2 to 1 (two students working together with one teacher). If you are interested in why I think 2 to 1 is an excellent option, please read my Blog here. In the last 30 years I have supervised - and taught on - courses for people from some of the world's top international companies.
Quartets

A group of just four students is one of the most effective and enjoyable language learning formats you can imagine. The amount of individual attention you receive in small group classes is obviously far higher than in a traditional group of 10, 12 or 15 students.
It is also the perfect format for pair-work and group discussion, where, again, I am able to monitor closely everything you say, and give individual feedback on grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. If you are in London I will arrange a time for you to come and do an interview and test. If you are still in your own country I will send you a test - you must have access to a PC or laptop, and be able to open an Excel file.

There is little doubt that a course of 1 to 1 lessons is potentially the most effective way of improving language skills. But it needs commitment and organisation, both from the learner, and from the teacher. And that is exactly what I will give to you if you decide to do a course with me: commitment and organisation.
English for Professionals

In the last 30 years I have supervised - and taught on - courses for people from some of the world's top international companies. The people I teach come from every area of business - finance, marketing, legal, HR, production, IT, sales, customer service and R&D.
And my work extends beyond the corporate market - I have also taught architects, diplomats, solicitors, flight attendants, surgeons, teachers, chefs, musicians and tour guides (not to mention the occasional sommelier and fighter pilot).

Out and About

For most of us, studying and learning is associated with being in a classroom or lecture theatre. But for some people that kind of environment is neither enjoyable nor effective. I will always remember an email from a Training Manager who wrote to me with a challenging request, in which she said: I spend my working life in training rooms and seminar rooms.
