Becoming an Architect in the UK
Report
ARCHITECTURE is one of the most cross-discipline careers you can find. Only those with a creative mind can design buildings from scratch, but architecture also needs meticulous mathematics and precise science. On top of learning a varied, practical skill set, architects also need to know about planning permission, engineering costs and building codes.
Do I need an Architect
Report
Some people successfully undertake quite major works, including whole house refurbishments and extensions without architects. If you don't trust builders, or are busy or inexperienced, an architect can help you keep an informed eye on the builders and ake sure the project stays on track. An architect must be registered with the Architects Registration Board (ARB) which has a publicly accessible database.
How do I choose my Architect
Report
Are they registered with the Architects Registration Board (ARB)? All architects must be, by law, so make sure you shortlist one that is. This guarantees a certain standard of work, and means they will have Professional Indemnity Insurance in case anything goes wrong and you need to pursue compensation.
