Business Details
We have operated Mersea Museum since its establishment in 1976, delivering nearly five decades of service to the community. Our team possesses specialised knowledge in local history, social history, natural history, geology and oral traditions of Mersea Island. We curate and present a new annual exhibition in the main hall, ensuring fresh and relevant content each year. Our resource centre provides public access to over 50,000 digitised images, slideshows, articles, parish records, local census data, audio files and video materials. We solve the challenge of preserving fragile historical artefacts by maintaining climatecontrolled storage and digitising collections for wider accessibility. Our professional standards are reflected in the purposebuilt premises that have been thoughtfully expanded to accommodate growing collections and visitor needs.
We adhere to recognised museum practices, ensuring accurate documentation, conservation and interpretation of all exhibited items. We extend problemsolving to educational outreach by designing tailored school and group visits that align with curricular objectives outside regular opening hours. We are committed to client satisfaction by offering free admission for members, affordable rates for adults and free entry for children. We provide families with interactive puzzles, quizzes and childfriendly activities that make learning engaging and enjoyable. We continually improve our services and maintain transparent communication to uphold the trust placed in us by residents, researchers and visitors.

Excellent, when I took my granddaughter's. A nice man gave them a clip board with things to find and comment on in the Museum. They really enjoyed finding the items and the staff joined in and helped them with their hunt.

A small museum, but well worth a visit. Currently it only costs 1 for Adults and 50p for children over 5 years of age. Open 2pm-5pm. I found it a very interesting and informative visit detailing the local history of the island everything from pre Roman times to fairly modern day. An Audio commentary is available for more of a personal guided tour experience. The staff that work there are passionate about the local history and preserving it for future generations and are very friendly and helpful.

Lots of interesting local artefacts and enjoyable for all the family. Friendly and helpful volunteers who also run a small well stocked gift shop.
