In the year 1070 the parish yielded to the King, William the Conqueror, 55 plus 20 pack horses loaded with salt. It is believed that the present building was constructed in 1350 to house the masons who built the church of St. George. It is probable that ale was dispensed on the site before this because a market was granted to Brayles in 1248.

Room 1 (double) is situated above the bar and while our bar does not run late, noise from the bar may be heard until 11pm. Rooms 4, 5 & 6 have an outlook to the front of the Inn therefore the bells from nearby St Georges Church can be heard chiming the hours from 4am, along with the 2 minute peal of a popular hymn.
