About Us
Report
Tarka Clinic is located in the centre of Barnstaple on Paiges Lane. It was opened by Sir Ranulph Fiennes in 1999. The Tarka Clinic is a dynamic, vibrant practice. Instead of having a number of practitioners working independently of each other, the members of Tarka Clinic work as a team, focusing on different aspects of the person's life in order to maximise their health potential.
Podiatry / Chiropody
Report
When you consider that a person walks over 75,000 miles (or nearly two and a half times round the world) in the average lifetime, it's easy to understand why we develop foot problems. Some problems are inherited, and some develop from illnesses in middle age, or from the pressure of ill-fitting shoes.
Counselling
Report
Jean Bowerman was trained as a specialist Relationship Counsellor by Relate and practiced within the organisation for 25 years until the recent closure of its Barnstaple centre. She provides specialist counselling to adult couples and individuals of all ages and has worked at centres in Buckinghamshire, and for the last 14 years, in North Devon where she now lives.
Cranial Osteopathy
Report
Cranial osteopaths are trained to feel the Involuntary Mechanism, a very subtle, rhythmical change that is present in all body tissues. The movement is of very small amplitude, therefore it takes practitioners with a very finely developed sense of touch to feel it. This rhythm was first described by Dr. William G. Sutherland and its existence was confirmed in a series of laboratory tests in the 1960's and 1970's.
Ear Microsuction
Report
One of the reasons why sound is unable to travel down the ear canal is an excessive amount of wax production. In these individuals ear wax has to be removed periodically to restore hearing. Traditionally, this is done by 'syringing' (or 'irrigation') at the doctor's surgery but there is now a new, safer method of removing troublesome earwax.
