The warmth of the welcome you receive when you walk through the door, immediately makes you feel at home. So you want to sit and stay a while. Its not just me that loves The Canteen, its my dog! Whenever we're walking past she drags me in! Their "doggy pit-stop" gets her every time. I have to say, I don't protest.

We are a family run waterfront eatery located in the historic barracks in the Hotwalls. With our enthusiastic team of chefs led by Head Chef Matt Barnes, busy in the kitchen, we offer a delicious breakfast and lunch menu. We are continually adapting our food offering with the changing seasons and wherever possible our food is sourced locally, from independent suppliers.

Old Portsmouth's spectacular waterfront venue, The Canteen provides an iconic backdrop for any special occasion. We are available for exclusive hire for your evening event from 6pm. We can cater for 40 - 80 people. The perfect choice for stand-up events, our waiting staff will circulate with two mini bowl food options & a dessert.
