Nestled in the heart of Dorset's countryside, Yalbury Cottage has been a cherished hospitality destination since 2007. Founded by Jamie and Ariane, our establishment combines 45 years of global hospitality expertise with the charm of a 350-year-old cottage. We offer boutique accommodation in eight uniquely decorated rooms, complemented by an award-winning restaurant showcasing locally sourced Dorset produce. Our venue specialises in intimate weddings, business events, and private dining experiences, all enhanced by proximity to Thomas Hardy's historic landmarks.Through our apprenticeship programme, we've nurtured 27 hospitality professionals who now excel in prestigious establishments worldwide. While our restaurant will close permanently on 21 December 2025, we remain committed to delivering exceptional service until our final day.

Our eight boutique rooms blend traditional charm with modern comforts. Each features garden or countryside views, en-suite bathrooms, flat-screen TVs with DVD players, and tea/coffee facilities. Rooms available Tuesday-Saturday with flexible check-in/check-out options available for additional fees.

Award-winning restaurant serving locally sourced Dorset produce in seasonal menus. Executive Chef Jamie Jones brings global culinary influences to classical French cuisine. Private dining available for special occasions with bespoke menu options for dietary requirements.
Afternoon Tea
Traditional afternoon tea served in our historic lounge or garden. Features homemade scones with clotted cream, finger sandwiches, and patisseries. Cheese tea and wine pairing options available. Bookings required Wednesday-Saturday.

Apprenticeship Programme

With 22 years at Four Seasons Hotels worldwide, Jamie brings global culinary expertise to Dorset. He champions local produce through relationships with regional suppliers, creating seasonal menus that reflect his international experience and classical training.
Ariane
Co-Owner
Bringing extensive hospitality management experience from Germany and the UK, Ariane oversees front-of-house operations. She works closely with local businesses to create authentic Dorset experiences for guests, combining European service standards with English country charm.
James Davie
General Manager
With over 15 years in premium hospitality, James manages daily operations. His background includes senior roles in UK luxury hotels and independent ventures, ensuring seamless service delivery across accommodation, dining, and events.

What accommodation packages are available?
We offer Bed & Breakfast, Dinner/B & B, and Room Only packages with flexible check-in/check-out options available for additional fees.
Can I book afternoon tea without accommodation?
Yes, afternoon tea is available Wednesday-Saturday for non-residents with advance booking required.
What is your cancellation policy?
Free cancellation up to 2pm two days prior to arrival. Late cancellations or no-shows incur first night charge.
Are pets allowed in the hotel?
Dogs are welcome with an £8.50 per night supplement, subject to prior arrangement and specific room allocation.
How do I reach Yalbury Cottage by car?
From Dorchester: Take B3150, second roundabout exit, turn right onto Bockhampton Lane. Property 400 yards on left.
Is the restaurant open to non-residents?
Yes, our award-winning restaurant welcomes non-residents with advance booking recommended, especially during peak periods.

I went for a hike and saw this cottage, entered and ordered. I got a lattee and cream tea. there was hair and what looked like exma skin in my coffee. I wanted a refund but was told to leave by a person with dandruff. never visit this place. was over priced swell. 13.82 for my lattee and cream tea. ruined my hike across Dorset.

Chose this place for a special birthday for my partner and it didn't disappoint. Very quaint, quite and homely whilst also giving you the feel of excellence. Food, wine, mocktails were outstanding; the menu does constantly change but the fishcake with curry sauce was amazing, as was the special dessert of coffee panacotta with Baileys whipped cream. Highly recommend and will definitely be coming back when in the area. Thanks to all staff for making the night memorable

Food was excellent and easily the most rateable and beautiful food in all of Dorset. The restaurant area and location of the cottage is beautiful. The atmosphere in the restaurant is so comfortable and beautiful.

Impeccable service, great ambience, heavenly food! Really nothing more can be asked of Yalbury Cottage to make my experience any better. Highly recommended and will definitely be back especially if I'm in the area again!
