Explore Local History at Twickenham Museum
Twickenham Museum has been dedicated to preserving and showcasing the rich history of Twickenham, Whitton, Teddington, and the Hamptons since its establishment. Originally conceived in 1874 as a technical museum by Thomas Twining, the institution has evolved through multiple iterations, including a period as a private collection in York House, before becoming a registered charity in 1993. Today, housed in a Grade II listed building dating from 1720, the museum offers free access to curated exhibitions, an extensive online archive, and educational resources for schools and families.

Our team of volunteers and curators work closely with The Museum of London and Orleans House Gallery to ensure a rigorous approach to historical research and public engagement. With a focus on local history from the 10th century to the present day, we provide a unique insight into the social, architectural, and cultural development of the Thames riverside area. Our exhibitions feature artefacts such as Mesolithic flint axes, World War Two memorabilia, and displays of 18th-century art, alongside regular thematic exhibitions exploring aspects of community heritage.

They are small but have lots of information about how the area used to be. They have exhibitions that change -today there are a lot on pipes that have been found in the area!
