Contact Lenses
Contact lenses are ideal whether you want everyday freedom or just occasionally for playing sport or going out for the evening. There are many different types of contact lenses to choose from and our opticians can guide you through the process and help you select the best type for you. Daily disposable contact lenses offer the greatest in convenience, wear them for a day and simply throw them away.
Children’s Eyecare
Your child's sight is precious. Yet, according to research*, 1 in 5 children could be having difficulties at school because of poor eyesight. More worryingly, they may not even be aware of it. At P.W Churms Opticians, we recognise how crucial eyesight is to your child's development. Which is why, in addition to offering NHS help, we go further to help them.
Computer, tablet & mobile phone users
KODAK BluProtect is a technological breakthrough that takes a sophisticated approach to filtering harmful blue light emitted by artificial lighting, computers, tablets and smartphones without distorting colour vision. The aim of KODAK BluProtect lens technology is to improve visual performance and eye protection through it's advanced anti-reflection properites, these help your eyes to more efficiently manage the light that enters them.
Eye Conditions
Dry eye syndrome, or dry eye disease, is a common condition that occurs when the eyes do not make enough tears or the tears evaporate too quickly. This leads to the eyes drying out and becoming red and irritated. Dry eye syndrome is also known as 'keratoconjunctivitis sicca' or simply 'dry eyes'. Although the condition can affect people of any age, your chances of developing dry eye syndrome increase as you get older.
Staying Safe In The Sun
Transitions lenses are designed to quickly adapt from clear indoors to fully dark in bright sun, offering a distinct advantage over clear lenses every day. By adjusting to both UV and visible light, Transitions XTRActive lenses activate to a comfortable level of tint for driving, making them an everyday lens that darken behind the windscreen of a car and behind a motorbike visor.
Your Eye Examination Explained
Everyone should have a sight test every two years, or more often if your optometrist recommends it. As well as an eye health check, a sight test might detect signs of underlying general health conditions, such as diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

Within your sight test, the optometrist will check both your ability to see close up and in the distance and will then work out whether there is a need for glasses and a change in prescription with a series of tests using different lenses. The optometrists will ask detailed questions about your eyesight, lifestyle health and any previous eye problems you or family members may have had.
