Russell James Motorcycles

My Stepson and i purchased a Triumph Trident T150T from Russell Insall trading as Russell James motorcycles in 2024. The bike was described as needing nothing doing to it and had a pre delivery inspection by the company mechanic. On the way home, a con rod snapped and went out through the crankcase. Phoned Russell who sent a text, The joys of classic motorcycling, Then left Steve broken down to get recovered.
Steve asked for a refund under the Law, consumer protection act 2015. he would not even look at the damaged bike and told Steve it would be a waste of his money to go to court and then, Russell faked another receipt to say it belonged to a man in Scotland. The first receipt stated clearly it was owned by Russell James motorcycles. It went to court January 2025 at Exeter County court, Judge Priddis presiding who awarded Steve 5995 plus cost of near 900.
The bike had not had an oil change for many years and the mechanic failed to notice this on his preparation for sale.
Worst of this was the faking of documents to blame a former owner and told to take him to court. Of course, the actual seller is always liable in Law. RJM now has a CCJ on his business

I have just completed a part exchange of my old Triumph for a Royal Enfield modern classic
The whole process was very easy and i am very happy with my new bike.
I found Russell a pleasure to deal with and i particularly appreciated his honesty when the bikes tank suffered some damage whilst having an MOT he let me know of the problem and then supplied the bike with a new tank.
I wouldnt hesitate to recommend this company wether your selling your old Triumph or in the market for a bike that Russell has in his showroom.

Ive just purchased a Triumph Trophy 650 on line off Russell, the bike was dropped off as promised with TT 100 tyres Ive asked for in immaculate condition, bear in mind this is a fifty seven year old motorbike. Im really looking forward to riding it when it gets a little bit warmer, Ive had numerous modern retros but you cannot beat the sound and feel of a Triumph. Just purchased a Triumph T140V from Russell. The experience from first call to a visit was exceptional. Given his undivided attention and time to go through and test the bike. Any questions answered with great knowledge and obvious experience.Russell could not have done anymore to assist. Im no way pushy sales. In the end a very easy decision to buy the bike. Bought a 1966 Triumph from Russ. The whole deal was done over the phone and with video calls. He did all I asked to make the bike what I wanted. Bike was delivered and it's exactly what I wanted. Russ is a top fella and I wish buying motorcycles off others was as easy and pleasurable as buying from Russ. 10/10

Had a really enjoyable and confident engagement with Russell, I completely recommend RJM for their honesty, knowledge and support whilst purchasing this new bike. Especially as I was buying it blind, but with Russell's easy to contact and reliable responses and advice made me feel comfortable enough to proceed.
Glad I did as the bike turned up exactly when it was supposed too, and was exactly as described.

Russell is an amazingly knowledgable guy. Although I didn’t buy anything, he was more than willing to spend time and explain things to me, nothing was too much trouble, same goes for his assistant, whose escapes me… sorry.
I was so impressed by his customer service and his attitude.
If only all motorcycle sales and mechanics were like Russell!!

Russell has made a stressful experience for me very easy, his valuations were accurate and gave me options in a friendly manner.
Following this experience I shall surely visit his showroom. I only wish I had met him when I was still riding my motorcycles.

Beware Russell James!!
This review may appear very long winded but if you are even considering dealing with this man please bear with me as it may save you a lot of money.
After several phone calls to Russell James and sincere assurances that the 1978 Red/Black T140E Bonneville ran as good as it looked in the advert and there was no way he would let us travel 200 miles to see it if it wasn't, my son and I decided to take a look.
On arrival the bike did indeed look good, after a brief test ride around the small industrial estate he is on and despite a couple of minor niggles we decided to buy

I'm with Andy Bolam on this dealer , don't touch with a bargepole. Sold me a 650 Tiger for £5600, started up, sounded OK, I should have got it up to temperature! Sounded like a diesel. I complained, he offered me £4000 for it after 3 weeks/ 80 miles. I swore, he went on the defensive as previously mentioned. A friend traded in a nice g12 matchless with him. I contracted him about a deal, but he blatantly lied, saying he was selling it for a customer!! Complete lie. Phone went very quiet when I picked hi. Up on it. After purchasing a red & black uk spec 1978 Triumph T140E from Russell James I had nothing but hassle, with reference from the earlier review regarding this machine and the subsequent reply from Russell James I would like to make the following points,

I have just seen the vitriol written by a father and son about the service they received from this dealer. In my opinion, no-one should have to tolerate on-line abuse. It does not solve complaints or problems, but what it does do is expose the true character of the writers for all to see.
I have had many deals with Russell James over the last 5 years, as a buyer and a seller. I have always found him fair, honest, very easy to talk to and with no false claims or pressure to buy.
