Services
GP Appointments
Our GP appointments utilise a telephone/video triage system to determine appropriate care pathways. Patients receive initial assessments through remote consultations, with face-to-face appointments arranged when clinically necessary. The system ensures efficient resource allocation while maintaining patient safety through structured clinical evaluations.
Repeat Prescriptions
Repeat prescriptions are available through multiple channels including online systems, dedicated email, and 24-hour voicemail. Patients require 48 hours' notice for processing, with medication reviews conducted annually to ensure ongoing appropriateness and safety of prescribed treatments.
Home Visits
Home visits are provided for patients with genuine mobility limitations. Non-urgent requests require morning notification for scheduling, while urgent cases receive same-day attention during operating hours. Visits are prioritised based on clinical need through confidential patient information assessments.
Travel Vaccinations
Travel vaccine assessments require completion of pre-travel forms at least six weeks before departure. While some vaccines are NHS-funded, specific immunisations like yellow fever require private providers. Our service helps patients meet international health requirements while ensuring vaccination safety and efficacy.
Steroid Injections
Steroid injection services target inflammatory joint conditions through targeted corticosteroid administration. Treatments provide pain relief and improved mobility, with maximum three to four annual injections per joint recommended to balance therapeutic benefits with potential tissue effects.
Questions
How do I book a GP appointment?
All appointments use our telephone/video triage system. Contact us during operating hours to describe your health concern, and a GP will determine if face-to-face consultation is needed.
How can I request repeat prescriptions?
Use our online system, email the dedicated prescription team, or call our 24-hour voicemail service with your medication details and personal information.
What home visit arrangements exist?
Call before 10:30am for non-urgent visits. Urgent cases during operating hours will be prioritised, with out-of-hours emergencies directed to NHS 111.
Are travel vaccines available?
Basic travel vaccinations are offered by appointment. Complete pre-travel forms six weeks before departure. Some vaccines require private arrangements through specialist providers.
How are test results communicated?
Normal results aren't routinely notified. Abnormal findings trigger phone or letter contact. Blood test results typically take five working days for processing and review.
What family planning services are available?
We offer contraceptive advice and pill management during regular appointments. Practice nurses provide coil checks and general family planning guidance through booked consultations.

Pity you can't give them a zero.
Worst medical centre by far. My medical centre at Bacup are 5 star, will see patients, been going there throughout this pandemic and about to get my flu jab there. On the other hand this joke of a medical centre will not even give an appointment out for the flu jab in fact still waiting for last year's appointment. Apparently they are struggling to get it, a tale I fail to believe. Within 30 seconds booked it at boots in Burnley instead. Terrible medical centre

I've always been very happy with the doctors and the reception staff here and appreciate how hard it must be to operate with increased demand during the pandemic

Rang St James several times on Tue, again several times on Wed constantly engaged. Rang 111 on Thursday couldn't get through after 1hr. Rang 111 Fri at 8 am got through after 40 mins. 111 suggested I would receive a call within 6 hrs. Call received 5 hrs on referring me to am SMS message sent at 11 am. Was about to go to Walk in centre. St James's requested a photo to protect, patients, staff and.... Photo sent. Apparently corrupted. Asked if we could try again. Told them not to bother. Painful having to deal with this practice.

Appointment booking scenario of EVERYONE trying to call at 0800 and the - lines constantly engaged is utterly chaotic and ridiculous. Any conversations outsude that tiny window with "many" reception staff feels like they actively want to obstruct you
