In 1979 a friendship was born between Maurice Marshal MBE and David Whitehead, two very different characters but with a shared passion for theatre. They had a determination to put the needs of their customers first and to provide faultless technical services to theatres up and down the UK. Maurice and David met at the Northcott Theatre in Exeter, where Maurice was the Chief Electrician and David his deputy.
Four decades on and although the name may be different our vision at SLX remains the same: to serve our customers as best as we can, deliver quality equipment and services, look after our staff and enjoy everything we do. We believe that great service, outstanding quality and an understanding of our customers works because customers continue to return to us time after time and many of our new customers come from personal recommendations.

Our desire to support young talent within theatre & events is central to our values. You may have heard of our 'Student Bursary' - a scheme which saw a number of technical students provided with equipment for creative projects, along with mentorship and networking opportunities each year.
We recognised that the key value in this programme was the mentorship, access to specialist knowledge, experience of working directly with a hire company and a network that we could introduce individuals too.We want to continue to build positive networks and opportunities for up-and-coming talent, lighting the way for those looking to build careers in our industry.

SLX has its headquarters in Bristol, with additional staff locations in Exeter and London. Our 70 strong team serve the need of a wide range of customers across the globe from small amateur groups to large multi-national organisations aswell as industry professionals in theatre, in live event management, broadcast and business.
