Mr Tapsell opened our store over 50 years ago with an aim to supply the highest quality products with a service second to no one.
Today, over 50 years on, our store is run by Mr Tapsell's son and grandson. We still follow the same aim to offer the best quality, best value products on the market with an after sales service that will not be beaten! In 1961 Mr Tapsell decided that due to starting a family and the advent of the fitted carpet (before most carpets were really just large rugs) it was time to open a shop and not only sell carpets but offer professional fitting too.

Preston Rugs stock and import a wide range of genuine hand-knotted carpets, rugs and hall runners from middle eastern counties. In regular stock we have Aqcha, Khan Mohammadi & Ziegler rugs from Afghanistan; Mori Bokhara & Kazak rugs for Pakistan; Kazak and Agra patterns from India and Persian Hamadan, Shiraz and Kazak carpets from Iran.
Aqcha

Named after the town they originate, these carpets come from the town of Aqcha in northern Afghanistan. The area has a long traditional of rug making predominantly in Bukhara, Turkman and Fil Pah (elephant's foot) designs. In recent years, some of these rugs have been made by nomadic Afghans from the Aqcha region in Pakistan and Iran.

Pakistan Mori Bokhara rugs have a super soft wool pile with a geometric pattern. Mori rugs are made by highly skilled, time served Pakistani weavers with high quality wool. The Pakistani Bokhara designs have proved to be very popular due their elegance and attractive simplicity, as well as the super soft and luxurious feel of the dense and lustrous shining wool pile.
Bidjar

Bidjar or Bijar rugs come from the Kurdish town of Bijar-e Garrus in north-western Iran. The town of is one of the highest towns in Iran with an elevation almost 600 metres higher than the peak of Ben Nevis. Our Bidjar carpets can be viewed at our Preston store and are available to purchase in store or online with up to 12 months interest free credit.
Hamadan

The city of Hamadan is situated 300 kilometres west of Teheran. It is one of the oldest cities in the world and is referenced in the Bible as 'Ekbatana' in the book of Esther. The city is the centre of trading for the carpets manufactured in the over 300 nearby villages, all with the own unique design.
