We have been responding to the needs of the bereaved in Inverness and surrounding areas since 1878. A tradition we are very proud of. You may be reading this because you have been recently bereaved or perhaps because you are considering your own funeral arrangements ~ whatever the reason, please be assured that we are always here to offer advice and support every step of the way.

We understand that dealing with the loss of a loved one is never easy, but we feel we can ease the burden by taking care of the practical arrangements and guiding you through the many decisions that have to be made at this time. D. Chisholm & Sons was established in Inverness during 1878 and is now under the personal supervision of. Our Funeral Home is situated on the banks of the River Ness, which runs through the centre of Inverness. As professional Funeral Directors and Embalmers, we are members of the professional associations governing Funeral Service and Embalming and agree to abide by the codes of practice as stated by each association.
Our History

He was then joined by his son Murdo and they continued producing furniture and coffins as well as undertaking funerals from their premises in Academy Street, Inverness, before moving to George Street, Inverness. Several pieces of their furniture can still be seen in our directors homes today.

By the time the third generation joined the family business, the focus was on funeral directing and brothers James and David Chisholm developed the funeral business by offering improved facilities and vehicles.Our first fleet consisted of a Humber hearse and limousine and bore the old Inverness ST registration plates.

We have a team of dedicated individuals who are carefully chosen to represent the business. They all have several vital qualities ~ the ability to understand the needs of the bereaved and offer compassion and support. Each team member is aware of the sense of responsibility placed upon them as they care for the bereaved families they are privileged to serve.

Once the funeral details have been arranged, it is usual to notify friends and family of the arrangements, including date, time and location of the funeral, preferences for flowers and privacy. This is traditionally done with a newspaper notice which we can help you prepare, however, we now offer options for online tributes, as well as these being posted on our Facebook page.
After a Bereavement

If a passing occurs at home, NHS 24 should be notified. Once authorisation has been received, we will then arrange a suitable time to take your loved one into our care. If a passing occurs in a hospital, hospice or care home we will organise a time to take your loved one into our care. Should a death be considered sudden or unexplained, it may have to be referred to the Procurator Fiscal.
