Architects need to travel to 'site' a lot during the course of a project, which typically ranges from 9-12 months for works to a private house and longer if the project is larger in scale or has special planning or funding requirements.

We start the process by getting an understanding of your requirements and aspirations for the project, together with information about the site. This enables us to put together a brief and to look at any opportunities and constraints that might exist in relation to this. We make an initial visit to the site and meet with the client to obtain a detailed understanding of their requirements.

Mass Architecture is a partnership founded by Charlotte Harrison and Glen McGowan in London in 2004. They relocated to York in 2009 and now work throughout Yorkshire and the North East. They have won design awards for their work in London and York and have been involved in a wide range of projects with local, regional and national clients.

When dealing with a new enquiry, we usually ask questions about the location of the site or building i.e. We usually want to visit the property or site, so that we can get the best possible understanding of the context for example, or the character/condition of an existing building.

We recognise that it is important to provide a proactive service when delivering commercial projects. We bring our expertise and experience of design, planning and project management to each project to ensure it runs smoothly. Often commercial projects require what we call a 'Design Team'. The team includes cost consultants, engineers and sometimes specialists that produce information to enable the project to move forward.
