Over many years here at Childsplay, managers and practitioners have been working together to embed an inspiring approach to supporting young children's learning and development. This approach was founded in a small city called Reggio Emilia in Northern Italy and became renowned for how they work with young children in their Infant and Toddler Centres and Preschools.

Childsplay Claremont Nursery was established in 1982 by a small group of parents attending Newcastle University. As the nursery is a co-operative, there is a significant emphasis on the ongoing relationship which develops between parents and staff, which is important to the successful functioning of the nursery, and this brings a variety of benefits to the organisation and its users.

Childsplay Nursery in a co-operative that uses the early years foundation stage (EYFS) framework and a Reggio-Emilia inspired approach. Since 1982, Childsplay nursery has provided families with quality early years education and care.
We're a non-profit co-operative: our focus is on providing the best environment for our children rather than generating income for shareholders, and the running of the nursery is the responsibility of our members (the parents and staff).We feel this helps us create and maintain an outstanding nursery.
