Mercury Free
Report
The official position of the British Dental Association (BDA) is that 'silver' fillings are safe and that amalgam (containing mercury) is a good material to restore decayed teeth. The Association states that there is no proven connection with adverse health complaints. However, more recently the BDA has released a statement saying that more research needs to be carried out to ensure safety.
Patient Protection
Report
In our opinion, Protection of the patient from additional exposure to amalgam (containing mercury) is of the utmost concern during the removal of mercury fillings. The goal of this procedure is to minimize any additional exposure of the patient, ourselves, or staff to mercury.
In the removal and replacement of mercury fillings, we follow the protocols recommended by the IAOMT (International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology) SMART - (Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique) and the British Society for Mercury Free Dentistry.SMART is a set of recommendations created by the IAOMT based on scientific research.

If we can demonstrate by a blood test that confirms whether or not your immune system is sensitised to mercury or that you have a body burden of toxic metals; then you may have a slight chance with medical insurance. Dental insurance will not help unless the old amalgam fillings are failing and need replacing from a functional standpoint, or have decay around or under them.

The picture to the left shows biofilm in symbiosis with a variety of bacteria - protected from the outside, proliferating on the inside. Microorganisms colonize the area and grow - their breeding ground develops its own protective layer. Bacteria then separate and colonize other areas. Immune defenses of the body are powerless - to subsequently prevent a bacterial invasion, the body triggers a process which breaks down bone tissue.
