Having graduated from Reading University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1981, Melvyn started working for S. O. Kingcott Ltd in the stores and parts. He was later promoted to Service Manager. In 1990 he left to work for Henlys as a Service and Parts Manager at their North Wales Jaguar Dealer.
