Old Vicarage School

We are the Old Vicarage School, a familyrun independent day school situated in the historic suburb of Darley Abbey, Derby. Established in 1933, the school has provided education for boys and girls aged three to eleven for over ninety years. In August 2007 the Adshead family acquired the school, and Matthew and Jenny Adshead remain the sole proprietors, with their own children having attended the school. Our campus occupies a former Victorian vicarage, set within extensive grounds that include mature trees, shrubs and an allweather astro turf pitch. The facilities comprise tennis and netball courts, a converted conservatory used for nursery activities, assemblies, drama, gymnastics, choir, orchestra and afterschool clubs such as ballet, karate and speech and drama. During warmer months we operate our own Pizza Shack, offering fresh pizza takeaways for families on Friday evenings.

We provide a broad curriculum that balances academic rigour with creative and physical development, ensuring pupils achieve high selfesteem and selfdiscipline. Pastoral care is central to our ethos, with dedicated staff supporting wellbeing, kindness and character growth throughout each pupils journey. Our location within the Darley Abbey World Heritage Site gives pupils access to excellent offsite facilities, including Derby Rugby Club, Darley Abbey Cricket Club and Woodlands Community Swimming Pool. We welcome prospective families to book a visit, tour the school and meet our Head of School, Mrs Kerry Wise, to experience the nurturing, homefromhome environment we cultivate. By choosing Old Vicarage School, parents entrust their children to a safe, secure setting where confidence, resilience and traditional values are nurtured for life beyond the classroom.
