Crown Works Pottery & School
It's where I met talented potters like Lucy Ocejo and Clare Spindler, who gave me a glimpse of what mastering your craft looked like. Crown Works Pottery is based in East London, tucked away in an old Victorian mews near to Bethnal Green and run by potter Giulietta Hextall. Giulietta runs the studio as both a school and a professional members studio.

The classes come in an array of options, including short taster sessions, beginner and intermediate workshops and more specialist one off master classes. All classes are taught by professional full time potters, with a passion for sharing their knowledge of this diverse material.

Giulietta loves to work to bespoke commissions and collaborations. The best way to do this is by contacting her over email with your thoughts and potential budget to work towards. She can then discuss with you your options and when and if the work can be made and supplied by. We often do not know this ourselves until a couple of weeks before the courses go live on the CWP website.

Please understand we are quite over subscribed, especially for tasters and Giulietta tries to reply to all emails, but due to the volume of interest it can take some time. Email is better than phone, as our hands tend to be covered in mud. Please do not call for this reason and the fact we have had to remove our numbers due to being inn-undated with phone calls.

Iona Crawford Topp
Report
Iona grew up in rural North Yorkshire as the daughter of an artist blacksmith, craftspeople of all disciplines would frequently gather around the family table. She came to appreciate materials and the hands that crafted them. Food and eating together played a large part of her upbringing and she is continuously influenced by the relationship between food and ceramics.
