We started Raw Feeding in 2003 with our German Shepherd Dog bitch Meru, she was always a fussy eater and suffered for digestive problems from a very early age, however all these issues disappeared very quickly when we started to feed her a Healthy Natural Raw Diet or "BARF Diet" as some will know it as.

It is sometimes hard to believe that our best friends ancestors were hunting and scavenging, eating a diet of raw meat and bone with definitely no cooking involved. Cooking and processing food greatly reduces the amounts of essential active enzymes, vitamins and fatty acids found in a raw diet. Many animal foods contain up to 70% wheat and other fillers, which can be difficult to process.

We would recommend a gradual transition to a raw diet over a 7-10 day period. Whilst some pets can tolerate an immediate transition from one type of feed to another, a gradual transition period will ensure that any unnecessary stomach upsets in your dog or cat are avoided. Day 1 - Substitute a spoonful of kibble (or high carbohydrate, wet processed food) for a spoonful of raw diet.

At Merumhor we only go to safe walking areas in the local countryside away from roads where, if the owner permits, their dog can be let off the lead to run, play and explore. To keep dogs interested, we use a variety of walks around the local area: Mugdock Country Park, Ardinning Loch, Lenzie Moss are among some of our favourites.
