We are Carrie and Fran. We set up A Natural Undertaking because we believe that choice and the power to take greater control are important when saying our final farewells. We're all unique and our funerals should be able to reflect our individual qualities. Funerals don't have to be conventional or Victorian, but can be arranged in ways that feel natural and right.

We are a truly independent Undertaker based in Birmingham - a business started by Carrie Weekes and Frances Glover - two friends, each with different reasons for becoming undertakers, but united by a single thought that "this can be done differently". Having attended and arranged a number of funerals we both felt that to a certain extent funerals had lost the human touch.

Our approach at A Natural Undertaking is simple and we do our very best on every occasion to be fair and transparent in the way we work. Families we have supported know that we help to create the funerals or memorials that they want. You can read some reviews here. We were nominated by the families we have worked with, and were ultimately shortlisted for two awards at the Good Funeral Awards 2015.

I really appreciated your help and advice. From the first contact, home visits, our meeting at Cafe to my husbands cremation, I felt support from you. You even made me laugh. I was one of the attendees at my neighbour, Chris' funeral and wanted to say thank you. I was kindly invited by his wife to the funeral of a very lovely man.

How We Work

We meet, wherever works best, to discuss your needs and wishes, providing ideas if required, about the kind of ceremony you might want. We'll help you complete the appropriate paperwork and we'll give you an estimate of the complete cost at this point. Once you have confirmed that you wish us to undertake on your behalf we will collect the person who has died.
